Munich. The anticipation for the ATP 500 premiere is growing – from April 12 to 20, the MTTC Iphitos facility will be transformed into one of the hotspots on the international tour and will welcome the absolute world class to the Bavarian capital for nine days. The prominent field of players and the new facility setup, equipped with a new temporary center court as well as new public catering, entertainment and VIP areas, were presented today, Tuesday, in Munich’s BMW Park. “Our tournament and the facility at Iphitos will reach a new level in many respects this year – be it for long-time fans, new visitors or our players,” said Fabian Tross, CEO of license holder and host MTTC Iphitos. “A further development that would not be possible without such great teamwork from the club, strong partners, our tournament director and many dedicated contributors. A further development that we are looking forward to with great anticipation,” says Christian Okon, Managing Director of the organizer MMP Event.

Field of players officially presented today at BMW Park

The tournament director, title partner and organizer presented the field of participants for the BMW Open by Bitpanda at the home venue of FC Bayern Basketball. After Alexander Zverev, the current No. 2 in the world, and Taylor Fritz (No. 4 in the world) had already confirmed their participation in Munich at an early stage, further top stars have now joined the starting field.

With the strongest cut-off in tournament history of 52, tennis fans can look forward to an illustrious list of top names:

Shooting star Ben Shelton from the USA will be playing in Munich for the first time. The 22-year-old is currently ranked 14th in the ATP world rankings and recently caused a sensation at the Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals. The left-hander is also currently ranked No. 6 in the Race to Turin.

Returning to Munich will be Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN, #19). The 24-year-old, who reached the quarter-finals of last year’s BMW Open by Bitpanda, has already won two tournaments this year and is currently ranked No. 5 in the Race to Turin. Another top 20 player on the list is Ugo Humbert (FRA, #20), who has already collected seven titles in his career, including two 500s in Dubai and Halle. Another starter has also been successful on the big stage. The Pole Hubert Hurkacz (#22), who already has two Masters 1000 titles to his name, will also be celebrating his premiere in Munich.

Spectators can also look forward to another well-known Canadian. Denis Shapovalov (CAN, #28) will be serving in Munich for the first time and will cause a stir with his powerful game. “Shapo”, as he is known on the tour, has already impressed this year with a tournament win at the ATP 500 in Dallas and is currently ranked No. 11 in the Race to Turin.

With Francisco Cerundolo from Argentina (#24) and Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic (#27), two more top 30 players have also confirmed their participation in the BMW Open by Bitpanda.

Tennis fans can look forward to a reunion with Italian Matteo Berrettini (#30), who won three titles last year after a long injury break and is now back in the top 30 and rising. Munich is also not a new place for the Italian, as the 28-year-old Roman played his way to the final in 2019.

With Gael Monfils (FRA, #46), the spectators can look forward to another old acquaintance. The French showman already played in Munich a few years ago and is a dangerous opponent for every player in the field when in top form.

Particularly pleasing: defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff (currently #49) is also returning to MTTC Iphitos. The man who sensationally celebrated his first ATP title in Munich in 2024 will do everything he can to drive the BMW winning car off Center Court again on Sunday in the new 500.

Up-and-coming talent Justin Engel receives first wildcard

The first wildcard at the BMW Open by Bitpanda has been awarded by the organizer to talented youngster Justin Engel from Nuremberg. The 17-year-old caused an international sensation last year when he won his very first ATP match, becoming the fourth youngest player ever after Michael Chang, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz – not bad company.

“We are particularly pleased that we will not only see world-class players with big names and exciting top talents at the BMW Open by Bitpanda 2025, but also a large number of athletes who are in impressive form this season: three of the top six in the Race to Turin will serve in Munich,” said Tournament Director Patrik Kühnen.

The enormous demand for tickets speaks for itself – tickets for the main round are already sold out for all but a few days. However, if you’re quick and keep your eyes peeled, you might be lucky enough to get your hands on the last few tickets. The last tickets are also available for the qualifying weekend.
